How Can I Attach Picture To Brick Wall Without Nailing -- Help

Want to hang decorative items from a brick wall, simply don't want to drill a hole in it?

How about:

  • Cord trellis for plants
  • String trellising tomatoes
  • Christmas lights
  • Party decorations

I found and accept tried and tested several different products for no-drill applications to a brick wall surface. Inside or out.

How can you attach something to a brick wall without a drill?  These are the four methods I constitute and tested.

  1. Double-sided tape can be used to hold items on a brick wall.
  2. Brick Clips that grip onto the brick will secure items onto a brick wall.
  3. Brick Clips that, hold in the mortar infinite between the bricks.
  4. Hammer in brick hooks that advertise no drilling can be hammered into the bricks.

Each of these was labeled for use on brick, I tested for outdoor use.

The best for hanging items on a brick wall with no drilling and worked all-time for all growing season back up are the brick clips. Both the mode that holds the brick and the style that grips the open up mortar space. Get whichever fits your bricks better.

How I tested.

To test each of these products, the double-sided foam sticky tape, the two unlike brick clips, and the hammer in brick hooks, I installed each of them on the outside of a brick house. To test how long they worked and how constructive they were, I grew plants that needed staking back up on twine to be attached to the supports.

i. Outdoor Rated Hd Double-Sided Gummy Record

To test this, I mounted a 3-pes (1 meter) long lightweight strip horizontally on the brick wall, maximizing the surface area for the sticky to stick.  From this, I hung 4 twine strings to hang down and pin at the ground for almanac vines to grow up. My program was for the vines to shade the south-facing wall, lowering the temperature gain on the building in the summer.  I did not want to exercise whatsoever drilling, fifty-fifty into the mortar since this was a rental property. This held fine for about a month and a half. As soon as the morning time glory vines were 3-iv feet alpine, the entire back up collapsed into a pile on the ground.

The record was rated for twoscore pounds, and I know the vines and the lightweight strip were less than 10 pounds, just the heat and the porous nature of the bricks were likewise much for the tape to overcome.  I do believe the tape was a good product, but the situation was just not what information technology was designed for. Did like the tape, volition not apply it for this type of awarding again.

The outdoor strength double-sided sticky tape held light objects, much lighter than labeled for a month.  The downfall was my brick was very porous, and had a dusty surface. Not dirty, only dry and slightly friable.  I practise feel it would accept worked more than to my satisfaction if it was painted on, not-porous surface. As well, the more weight, the more directly surface area needs to have contact.

2. & three.Brick Clips, 2 Types

I used the post-obit brick clips to mount on the same wall, tied the mounting lath to the clips, and installed the cord trellis for the forenoon glories and moon vines to grow.

Equally of 2 months later, the growth of the vines is thick and has exceeded the height of the mounting board with brick clip mountings.  I had my doubts, which I will cover below, but I declare this a resounding success.

The brick clip that grips the brick did well.  It was easy to install, as long equally yous knew and purchased the right size for your brick.  Bricks come in different dimensions (who knew? it was a surprise to me) and you will demand the right size.  The mortar between the bricks as well needs to have enough of a squared-off lip to grip. Bricks that have been painted, and whose mortar is rounded upward to the edge of the brick will non hold effectively.

Brick clips grips brick

I was concerned when installing these clips.  It appeared to exist such a thin area the clips were gripping also, and they can be hands knocked off if the pressure is coming from the side, or you pull away from the wall. If the pressure, or weight, is coming from beneath the clip, it worked beautifully.  As you can encounter from the pictures, these were property tomato plants which are heavy. Please excuse the one with all the fruit, but no leaves, this picture was taken afterwards it was disseminated by the tomato hornworm, my lack of watching for them.  Two days and look at the damage! Regardless, the love apple was heavy with leaf too, only a couple of days prior, and being in the state of Tennessee, there is wind and absolute downpours of rain to withstand likewise. No problem!

As y'all tin can meet, I have these strings both with the weight pulling downward, and pulling at an bending sideways downwards, along the wall plane.  No bug with either angle. I was surprised and happy to come across this!

Clip that grips in mortar area

The brick clip that holds in the mortar infinite works on any size brick, which is great when you are at the shop, and never thought to measure your brick earlier trying to pick them up :).  This is a big bonus in my book, again… Who knew y'all might demand to measure your bricks. Bricks are bricks…right? (no). The same effect is that your brick wall needs to have a definitive squared-off edge, best the width of a pencil eraser, where it holds without the interference of mortar, specially not rounded mortar.

This clip worked as well every bit the prior, grips the brick, clip.  It has a smaller bulk, and so I was doubted it would, only my concerns have thus far been proven unfounded.  It has worked faultlessly.

4. Blast-In Brick Clip

I tried the nail-in clips for brick. That did not work at all.  Not even shut. I could not even see how these had been rated for brick.  Wood, yes, which is where I ended up nailing them into the fascia board to concur instead.  Worked not bad at that place, but the brick? Non a chance, they just bent or refused to budge at all.

There are pics of how well they worked when pounded into the wood, great there.  Possibly these are designed for concrete block or installing in the mortar. They just did not work for me in brick, and my mortar is inset, so these clips could not be installed into the mortar for my application.

Exercise command hooks work on brick walls?

Control stips but work on bricks if the brick is painted, and not also crude.  Recall more on the lines of painted physical block, much smoother, rather than a rougher brick.  The issue is the area the adhesive has to accept plenty flat smooth surface to grip onto. The less surface expanse, the less it will stick, and a porous surface similar unpainted brick simply is too…well … dusty to concord.  Like how a terra cotta pot, if y'all wiped it with a clean white cloth, no affair how many times you wipe it, a piddling more than terra cotta will exist rubbed off on the cloth. This is not a firm-holding surface for anything to stick to.  You can endeavour a hack of using hot glue to concur the hook, but so again… it wouldn't be an 'easy to remove command strip' so, would it?

How to hang curtains on brick walls?

This one is a tough 1, simply here are three hacks you can utilize.

1, drill holes, into the MORTAR. These are hands filled when removed and the actual brick has not been damaged.  Second, if your curtains are very low-cal, or sheer, endeavour the trick of hot glue on your hooks. 3rd, forget nigh the wall… hang your hardware from the ceiling!  Equally easy to fill in a hole in the ceiling drywall as it is to fill a hole in the wall drywall. No problem!

How to hang pictures from a stone fireplace without dissentious the stone?

Hang from the ceiling..in front of the stone fireplace.

Is there thick enough mortar between the stone pieces to drill and place hardware?  Mortar can be filled easily, and then there would exist no damage to the stone. If y'all have large apartment pieces of stone, similar stacked flagstone, or slate, that has a deep inset before you get back to the mortar, see if you can find 'C' clamps that volition fit around the individual stones, and hang from that.

Do you accept a regular wall on either side of the stone area?  Mount a lath or some other decorative chemical element across the front of the stone expanse, mounting on brackets on either side of the rock area.  Use regular picture show mounting hardware on the board.
